SOME USEFUL TIPS TO OPTIMIZE VIETNAM VISA EXEMPTION

A Vietnamese government regulation which was implemented in August 2023, allows citizens from 25 countries to enjoy visa-exempt stays for a duration of up to 90 days in Vietnam. Furthermore, the validity of the visa-free period for unilateral visa exemption holders has been increased from 15 to 45 days.

 90 days  Chile, Panama
 45 days  Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain,  Sweden, and United Kingdom (not applicable for BNO  passport)
 30 days  Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, and Kyrgyzstan.
 21 days  Philippines
 14 days  Myanmar, and Brunei

Although the visa exemption program allows citizens among 25 countries to visit Vietnam by using only a valid passport, here are some important points that you need to know: 

  • 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙑𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙮: Make sure that your passport remains valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date in Vietnam and contains a minimum of 2 blank pages for entry stamps. 
  • 𝙉𝙤 𝙈𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝘿𝙤𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙀𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙒𝙖𝙞𝙩: In the past, there was a requirement of 30-day interval between 02 stays with visa exemption. However, this regulation has been discarded and travelers can now enjoy multiple visa-exempt entries as long as they meet the other criteria.
  • 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙄𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮: Since there is a limited duration of stay, it’s essential to plan your itinerary meticulously to maximize your time in Vietnam. Find out popular destinations, attractions, and activities in advance to ensure a fulfilling and memorable travel experience.  
  • 𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝘿𝙤𝙘𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙮: While the entry process is uncomplicated, it’s essential to carry necessary documents such as your passport, return ticket, and proof of accommodation during your stay in Vietnam.
  • 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙙: Visa regulations and policies may change over time, so stay informed about any updates about Vietnam’s visa exemption rules by subscribing to official Vietnamese government websites or consulting reputable travel agencies for the latest information. 
  • 𝘼𝙋𝙀𝘾 𝘽𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙙 (𝘼𝘽𝙏𝘾) 𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨: If you hold an ABTC with the VNM code on the back, you are eligible for an extended visa-free stay of 60 days.
  • 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙖 𝙀𝙭𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙞𝙛 𝙉𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙: The visa exemption is a great start; however, if you desire an extended stay, consider exploring options for visa extensions or other visa types suitable for your travel plans. Remember, start the application process well in advance to avoid last-minute complications.
