Vietnam eVisa eligible countries have seen significant updates. From 15 August 2023, Vietnamese e-visas are open to all national, an expansion from the previous 80 countries. The number of entry points in Vietnam accepting e-visas has also increased from 38 to 42. Additionally, e-visas now offer a 90-day validity with multiple entries, replacing the previous 30-day, single-entry limit.
What is a Vietnam eVisa?
Vietnam introduced the Vietnam eVisa, commonly referred to as EV, on February 2, 2017. This online visa system offers a convenient way to obtain your visa. It allows travelers to apply for and receive their Vietnamese visa entirely online.
What’s on a Vietnam e-visa?
A Vietnam e-visa displays:
- Your full name, date of birth, gender, and national.
- Your passport number and its expiry date.
- The validity period of your visa.
- Please specify your intended port of entry into Vietnam.
- Purpose of your visit
- Details about your inviter or guarantor (if any): their address and phone number.
- A distinctive QR code contains essential details such as your passport number.
Extending Visa-Free Stays to Boost Tourism and Business in Vietnam
One significant change in Vietnam’s visa policy is the introduction of a standardized 90-day permissible stay through e-visas. This encourages longer and more immersive business trips.
Travelers from specific Western European countries, Japan, and South Korea have played a vital role in Vietnam’s tourism sector. Currently, they enjoy visa-free entry for up to 15 days.
To attract more tourists from these countries, they have increased the visa-free stay to 45 days.
The recent visa policy reform extends its positive implications beyond major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Traveling to Vietnam is now easier with E-visas, accepted at 13 airports, even in smaller cities. Additionally, 16 land border gates accept them, making the process simpler and fostering a positive environment for various business activities.

- A passport that’s valid for 6 months after your arrival date with at least 2 blank pages.
- A digital copy of a passport-sized photo (check the specific Vietnam visa photo guidelines).
- Digital copies of your passport’s main data page – ensure it’s clear and complete.

- Use an online payment method such as a credit/debit card (Note: They don’t accept American Express).
