Choosing a 3-month Vietnam visa allows one entry into the country for 90 days. It’s essential to note that leaving Vietnam during this period will invalidate the visa. If you plan on an extended stay, you can apply for an extension. If you choose a 3-month multiple-entry visa, you can enter and leave multiple times during the 3-month period.

Types of Vietnam visas
Vietnam offers various types of visas to cater to different purposes and lengths of stay. You can categorize these visas based on your reason for visiting, whether it’s tourism, work, education, or visiting relatives.
For the duration of your stay, Vietnam offers visas for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year.
Regardless of your purpose for visiting, the duration of your stay, and your schedule, choosing the right visa is crucial. A 1-month visa is good for travelers, but many tourists and business travelers in Vietnam prefer a 3-month visa.
Types of 3-month visas in Vietnam
In Vietnam, 3-month visas come in two varieties: single-entry and multiple-entry visas.
Single entry visa (3 months)
A single entry visa is valid for 3 months (90 days) and allows only one entry into Vietnam. During your visit to Vietnam, you have the option to stay for 3 months. But if you leave at any time, your visa will expire. If you plan to re-enter Vietnam after your single entry visa has expired, you will need to apply for a new visa.
The cost for a 3-month single entry visa is USD25 per person. Tourists, businessmen, investors, and individuals visiting family or relatives in Vietnam prefer this visa. It serves two main purposes:
- Traveling (Category DL): Ideal for tourists.
- Business (Category DN): Suitable for those working with enterprises in Vietnam.
Multiple entry visa (3 months)
A 3-month multiple-entry visa allows foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times within 90 days. This is different from the single-entry option. You can exit Vietnam and return as many times as you like until the visa expires.
The cost for a 3-month multiple-entry visa is USD50 per person. This choice is good for people who want to go in and out of Vietnam many times in 3 months.
Who is eligible for the 3-month visa to Vietnam?
Not everyone can apply for a 3-month visa to Vietnam. Here’s a list of individuals who can qualify for this visa:
- Foreigners who have work permits in Vietnam or possess certificates exempting them from work permits.
- Foreign investors and business owners in Vietnamese enterprises.
- Foreigners traveling to Vietnam for business or tourism with sponsorship from an agency or organization in Vietnam.
- Travelers with a passport valid for at least one year prior to their trip.
- Vietnam does not allow a list of people to enter. Article 21 of the Law on Foreigners’ Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence in Vietnam mentions this list. Vietnam allows entry for people not on this list.
How to apply for a 3-month visa to Vietnam
Getting a 3-month visa to Vietnam involves a few steps. Here’s a breakdown of the process:
Step 1: Preparation
Before applying for your visa, you’ll need to gather the necessary documents, including:
- Application form to enter Vietnam (form NA2)
- Application form for visa issuance and stay extension (form NA5)
- Work permit or work permit exemption (for foreigners)
- Your original passport with at least 1 year of validity
- Temporary residence book or certificate of temporary residence registration (for foreigners)
- Introduction letter from your inviting or guaranteeing agency/organization
- Legal documents of the inviting/guaranteeing enterprise (e.g., Business registration certificate, Operating license, Investment license of the enterprise, first registration of signature and seal at the Vietnam Immigration Department).
Step 2: Submit documents and await approval
Depending on your location, you have two options for submitting your documents:
If you’re outside Vietnam:
Submit all documents at the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence.
If you’re in Vietnam:
Your enterprise or agency in Vietnam can submit documents to one of the listed Vietnam Immigration Offices.

Other immigration offices in various provinces across Vietnam also exist.
Please Note: The Vietnam Immigration Department operates from Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings, except on public holidays. The working hours are 08:00 am to 11:00 am and 13:30 pm to 16:00 pm. In case of emergencies, you can still contact the officers on duty at the headquarters.
Step 3: Receive the result
Once you’ve submitted your application, the process typically takes 5 to 7 working days. If we approve your application, we will inform you or your inviting/guaranteeing company of the result. Next, go to the Embassy/Consulate or Vietnam Immigration Office, pay the visa fee, and get your visa.
Fees for Vietnam visa options
You can get a 3-month visa for Vietnam by applying at the Embassy/Consulate or getting a Visa on Arrival. Additionally, there is a Vietnam E-visa option for a single entry with a maximum stay of 30 days. The fees vary depending on the method you choose.
Applying at the Embassy/Consulate:
- Single entry: USD25
- Multiple entries: USD50
Applying for a Visa on Arrival:
- One entry costs $25 for the government fee and $25-150 for the visa approval letter, depending on the agency’s policy.
- Multiple entries: USD50 (government fee) + USD25-150 (visa approval letter)
Vietnam 3 month e-visa (Multi-entry)
Vietnam is considering extending the duration of e-visas for foreign visitors from 30 days to 90 days. The aim of this change is to attract a larger number of tourists to the country. They also plan to enable multiple entries with e-visas and broaden the list of eligible countries and territories.
